Making yourself or your company known is important. Branding is an important aspect to advertising. Branding is a way to not only get your name out there, but also to recognize your customers' wants and needs and making that certain connection with them whether it be an emotional or professional one.
I think the first part to making a brand is coming up with a name and designing a logo. A logo is a graphic mark or emblem that should represent a company instantly when seen. If a logo is designed poorly or doesn't represent the company well then it could suffer with ambiguity and obscurity. However, with great design and representation, a logo can become well known in pop culture and advertise itself as an icon.
From then on, a company should create marketing materials such as a website, business cards, promotional flyers, brochures, and/or presentations with a consistent look and feel and design. Keeping up to date with these materials is important so that customers are constantly updated with the company's products and services. This whole process is part of branding your company.
I would say I know how to get a company out on the market because I was part of the design and marketing department for my previous job. We had to create and update the website, brochures, presentations, etc. so that our customers would stay loyal to the company. The company also created a sister company that focuses on a specific service that targets a certain industry. While creating the company, I helped design the company logo and website. I also helped with the marketing materials that would get the company's name out to the public.
Branding is important in that it is about proving to your prospects that you are the best company out there and that you can fulfill all their specific needs and desires.
